Six Months of Silence: The Art of Starting Over

Two years of university ended in May 2025. I only went back home to India once in 2 years. That’s when it hit me that nothing stays the way you think it will. You have to start over!

When you’re studying abroad, you imagine what your life will look like. The friends you’ll make, falling in love, the excitement of living somewhere new for the first time. And then it just happens. You don’t even notice when everything becomes a part of you. You didn’t know you could feel this much about a place until you had to leave it.

Before I moved to Syracuse, I read so many blogs. Talked to people who had already done it. Asked them how to survive, what to expect, how to make it easier. But none of that really prepared me. Your experience is yours. No one can tell you how it’s going to feel. It’s about figuring yourself out, making real connections, living through things you never saw coming.

Leaving Syracuse was weird. Some people get excited when they start over. Some people cry. Not because they’re scared or don’t want to move on. It’s the emotions that tie you to a place. The terrible memories and the beautiful ones, they’re all part of the same story. Walking away isn’t easy, even when you know it’s time.

Starting over looks different for everyone. But it feels the same, right?

It’s been six months since I posted anything here. I got busy with a new job, a new city, a completely different routine. I forgot about this blog. Forgot about writing. Forgot to check in with myself. Life got overwhelming and I just went quiet.

But I’m back now. Starting over again.

I think that’s how life works. We mess up. We forget about the people we love and the things we care about. But we always come back to them eventually. Maybe we’re different. Maybe we have new baggage or new memories. But we find our way back.

So if you’ve been away from something that mattered to you, be a little easier on yourself. You didn’t fail. You were just trying to keep up with everything. And now you’re here again, maybe a little tired, maybe a little wiser.

We’re all starting over somewhere, every single day 💕

P.S. Cried a little when writing this:)
